The year end is always a rather exciting time for avid globetrotters — a time of holidays, wanderlust, and reflection. As we reach the end of 2019, it’s prime time to start planning out those long-awaited getaways. If you’re so frequently on-the-go that travelling is beginning to take on “been there, done that” vibes, we’ve got some pretty good news for you. There are a handful of brand new resorts and hotels that have just launched this 2019, or are about to open very soon. And they’re located all over the world, even as far as a beautiful jungle resort in Guatemala, and a mountain refuge with breathtaking views of the French Alps.
Call dibs on these luxurious escapes:
Bringing forth the quintessential New Zealand experience, the three private residences offer fresh farm-to-table cuisine, activities on the property, and views for days of green hills, the surrounding farmland and the blue sea of Northland. The accommodation was actually developed for owner Julian Robertson’s children and their families, but like its sister property, Owner’s Cottage, is available for guest bookings. Each of the three residences has its own individual style with warm decor designed by local interior designer Virginia Fisher. The Residences at Kauri Cliffs officially opens in November 2019.
As if born out of the beautiful jungle that surrounds it, the hotel and spa on the shores of the mystical Lake Peten Itza is a sight to behold. The Bolontiku blends Mayan heritage with doses of modern luxury, inviting guests to enjoy the tropical climate and starry night sky from plush private decks. Activities to get you on board include a lake swim, nature walk to spot toucans, parrots and monkeys, or a traditional sauna experience known as Temazcal.
Reopening in December 2019, Refuge de la Traye is ready for a winter comeback in the French Alps. The ‘hotel hamlet’ underwent a massive renovation and expansion to soon offer 8 eco-luxury rooms and suits, and the Chalet Edelweiss for big groups. There’s a restaurant too, along with a spa offering restorative treatments including a water massage. When summer comes, guests are encouraged to make a date at the farm to learn about the rural traditions of the mountains.
Asai hotels, Dusit’s lifestyle brand for millennial-minded travellers, makes it debut in Bangkok’s Chinatown. The hotel will be located adjacent to Yaowarat Road — a renowned street food destination. Decor extends to a Thai-meets-Chinese-inspired design with superior quality beds and high-pressure rain shower. Along with a promising pop-up restaurant concept with a seasonal farm-driven menu, the hotel features a workspace, and will offer easy access to temples and shrines, various art galleries and museums, hip bars and coffee shops.
Opened just at the end of July, the latest Park Hyatt sits atop a 48-story skyscraper in the heart of the Futian central business district. The hotel was designed by New York-based architectural firm Kohn Pederson Fox Associayes (KPF), resembling a steel butterfly with its wings spread against the Shenzen city skyline. On the inside, interiors such as the Chinese-style garden in the lobby, are the creative works of Yabu Pushelberg. The calm botanical oasis transports guests to a home away from home within the fast-growing city.
