Haven’t you heard? W Kuala Lumpur is now open! From Singapore’s famous Saint Pierre to pool parties worthy of an epic hangover, this hotel lives up to your every expectation of a W.
We spoke to Nikie Mok, the hotel’s Director of Sales & Marketing. A woman on top of her game, Nikie has been kicking it in the hospitality scene for over 18 years. And, she says she’s as ready as we are for W’s vibrance and energy to shake up the local scene. Nikie shares her insider tips on what to do, where to go, and what to see while you’re staying at W Kuala Lumpur so you don’t miss a thing.
What makes W Kuala Lumpur so special?
We’ve got a quirky, avant-garde approach to luxury that reflects the millennial spirit, philosophy and lifestyle. Our lifestyle mantra — Detox, Retox, Repeat — means we try to bring our customers closer to the social and artistic scene here in KL. The hotel has DJ nights, monthly events designed in line with our guests’ lifestyle motivations. On top of that, we give them W insider access to whats new and next.
Whats the best room in the hotel?
At the top of the line is the Presidential Suite, or what we call the EWOW suite. At 520 square metres, not only is it the largest in town, you will also have your own pool, a bar counter, sound system, gym and massage area. One floor only has three suites and they can all be connected to each other, so you can actually take over the entire 23rd floor – which has a fantastic view of the twin towers – and have your own event in complete privacy. A total paradise in the city!
What are the rooms like?
Guests can expect to jump into the W Hotel bed with signature linen and plush pillows, de-stress with a full range of Bliss bath, body and skin care amenities found in their room, listen to the latest beats with our in-room bluetooth soundbar, and gain 24/7 access to FIT (our fitness centre).
Can you tell us about W Kuala Lumpur’s dining scene?
We have Woobar for sophisticated cocktails, and the Wet Bar at the pool deck which turns into a suave lounge in the evening with acclaimed deejays.
Our celebrated Director of Culinary Richard Miller helms Flock, a vibrant and energetic all-day-dining restaurant which serves up modern Australian cuisine with organically-grown products, and spotlights sustainable food movement. Then, there is Yen, our accomplished Chinese restaurant, that’s part bar, and part art space with private rooms.
And of course, there’s the privately owned Saint Pierre.
Outside the hotel, what would you recommend guests check out?
- Flyproject for a good body burn. The instructors may push you to your limits as you cycle hard with pulsating music in the background, but it’s so much fun.
- If you love jazz music, I recommend KL’s premier jazz club, No Black Tie. It’s cosy and has a Japanese-inspired menu to die for. If you’re lucky, you can catch live performances by Grammy Award winners.
- A speakeasy called PS150, which carries a delicious air of Old Shanghai noir. It’s the best place to relish in some truly avant-garde designer cocktails.
